Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction can occur at all ages and is not only caused by the pre- and post-partum changes that occur to the female body. Males too can experience Pelvic Floor Dysfunction.
If you experience this condition it is important that you understand the physiological changes that have occurred in your body to lead to such outcomes and then learn how your pelvic floor should function correctly. As Exercise Physiologists, it is our job to educate you with this knowledge so that we can work together to re-train your pelvic floor and associated abdominal muscles.
Once you are guided through these personalised exercises and begin to be more mindful of your pelvic floor, our aim, is to get you implementing such techniques during activities of your daily life! With the right approach to exercise and supervised movement, you will feel as though every exercise has been tailored to your body!
Pelvic Floor Retraining
At any.BODY Studio we use an evidence based approach to retraining your pelvic floor and then assisting you to use it functionally in activities of daily life and within a group exercise class.
The foundation to Pilates is breathing, and diaphragmatic breathing, core activation and synchrony has been linked to improving your pelvic floor strength.
Signs that you may need to retrain your pelvic floor are:
Leaking urine when coughing, sneezing, laughing or running, failing to reach the toilet in time, passing wind from either the anus or vagina when bending over or lifting.
If you want to use exercise to build a stronger, healthier pelvic floor then book in with Elle or Claudia our Accredited Exercise Physiologists.
