MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING

We work within a trauma informed care framework, listen to our clients and understand that their condition and their journey with their health at times may have been traumatic and overwhelming.

Trauma-informed care is based on the understanding that a significant number of people living with mental health conditions have experienced trauma in their lives.

We aim to provide:

Trust, Safety, Choice, Collaboration and Empowerment throughout our sessions.

Safety

Safe relationships are consistent, predictable, and none-shaming.

Safe surroundings are warm and welcoming. We aim to provide a sense of serenity and safety in our beautiful boutique clinic.

Safe language is respectful, with clear boundaries set.

Trust

Trust is foundation for establishing a healthy relationship and ensuring on-going care.

For you to trust your exercise professional, your exercise professional must showcase genuine care and be authentic.

When basic needs of safety, respect and acceptance are understood, an atmosphere of trust can be established.

Choice, Collaboration & Empowerment

As exercise physiologists we help identify options and alternatives for movement. From the moment you step through the door, we want you to feel like it is your choice to spend time with us.

Promoting and reinforcing autonomy, can help you feel in control rather than being in a place of powerlessness.

A collaborative relationship is one in which the health professionals professional knowledge is combined with the clients expertise in their life.

Using Exercise to Manage Depression

Around 1 in 7 Australians will experience depression or feelings of depression in their lifetime. Exercise can not only reduce the impacts of depression by improving our mood and mental wellbeing, it can also decrease the risk of developing mood disorders. Everyone's experience of depression may look different, however physical activity in some form can be beneficial to all.

Exercise can assist depression by:

  1. Boosting hormones like serotonin and dopamine, which are our "feel good" and "reward" chemicals

  2. Can provide a way to connect with others and decrease isolation

  3. Improve sleep quality

  4. Support joint health and reduce muscular tension from increased time in bed

  5. Reduce other symptoms and conditions that are often associated with depression

  6. May provide a sense of enjoyment

The most important part in managing depression with exercise is ensuring the right form of physical activity is chosen for you.
